What You Need to Know Before Taking A Trip to Quarry Lakes Regional Recreation Area
What to Bring
Everyone has their go-to list of favorite things to bring on a jog, run, or hike. Here are a few of our favorite things to bring to Quarry Lakes Regional Recreation Area!
- Your old, worn tennis shoes. Leave the new Nikes at home. As the name implies, this is a retired rock quarry, so the path is scattered with gravel both big and small.
- Your favorite playlist or podcast.
- Sweat-wicking gear.
- Reusable water bottle filled with crisp, cool water.
- Cash for parking and/or emergencies.
Running at Quarry Lakes Regional Recreation Area
The trail itself weaves through three lakes; Rainbow Lake, Horseshoe Lake, and Lago Los Osos. Horseshoe Lake hosts the bulk of swimmers and non-gas powered boaters. The park is impeccably clean and boasts the most beautiful shades of purple, red, and yellow wildflowers.
The maintained loop on the grounds rounds off at 3.6 miles. However, you can easily cover much more off the beaten path should you be training for a half or full marathon. If you’re trailblazing, we recommend keeping a consistent pace versus interval training as the terrain can be uneven in spots. Carve out time for a few water breaks throughout because the scenery guarantees a supply of breathtaking views.
Relax Your Muscles at The Purple Orchid
