What You’ll Find at Concannon Vineyard
A Historic Destination
Founded in 1883, Concannon Vineyard is a rare winery that survived Prohibition. They did so by making and selling sacramental wine. Today, you will find Prohibition-era dated bottles in the National Museum of American History. Concannon Vineyard is home to four generations of family wine pioneers. With over 135 years of history in every bottle, this vineyard is a historical destination in and of itself. Ask questions during your visit to Concannon Vineyard, because the stories that you will hear are fascinating!
Spectacular Vines & Clones
Over a century ago, Concannon Vineyard blazed a trail of excellence in Livermore Valley when they imported vines from Chateau Margaux. These special vines yielded the grapes used in their Bordeaux style wines. In 1965, the founder’s grandson, Jim, collaborated with UC Davis to select and treat cuttings from those original Chateau Margaux vines. The results were virus-resistant vines labeled Concannon Cabernet Clones 7, 8 and 11. Today, more than 80% of California’s Cabernet Sauvignon derives from these Concannon clones!
